Since its debut in 1940, Dale Messick's Brenda Starr has been a pioneer, an adventure strip starring a strong female lead character. The title character is an intrepid reporter traveling the globe to get her story. When Messick retired in 1980, she was succeeded by Ramona Fradon. Today, Brenda Starr's adventures are in the hands of writer June Brigman and artist Mary Schmich.
